Take Action Now to Power Africa’s Future

Africa holds 60% of the world’s best solar resources, yet 600 million of its people lack access to electricity.

In partnership with the European Commission and the Republic of South Africa, Global Citizen is driving the “Scaling up Renewables in Africa” campaign, with the support of the International Energy Agency.

The campaign is calling for new public and private investments to accelerate renewable energy projects in Africa and address energy poverty.

The campaign will also contribute to the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank’s Mission 300.

Take Action

What you can do

TAKE ACTION TO

Close the Energy Gap

Without reliable electricity, opportunities for education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship are limited. Expanding renewable energy access will power communities, while safeguarding our planet’s future.

TAKE ACTION TO

Invest in Renewables

Africa holds 60% of the world’s best solar resources, plus abundant wind, geothermal, and hydropower, but attracts only 2% of global renewable energy investment. We need to scale up renewable energy projects across the continent to bridge the energy divide.

TAKE ACTION TO

Mobilize Global Action

The majority of people living in extreme poverty are in sub-Saharan Africa. Governments, the private sector, and financial institutions must commit to bold investments and policies to accelerate Africa’s clean energy transition and lift millions out of poverty.
