Global Citizen NOW brings together the brightest minds, influential decision makers, and the biggest names in pop culture to create a global agenda for urgent action. The summits are about more than talking about the world’s biggest challenges, they are about taking action to solve them.

In March, we returned to Australia and brought Global Citizen NOW to Melbourne, one of the world’s most exciting and vibrant cultural epicenters. We partnered with the Victorian Government to invite world leaders, young innovators, and some of Australia’s biggest names to join us for a truly unmissable event.

We post, tweet, message, vote, sign, and call to inspire those who can make things happen to act — government leaders, businesses, philanthropists, artists, and citizens — together improving lives.

By downloading our app, Global Citizens learn about the systemic causes of extreme poverty, take action on those issues, and earn rewards with tickets to events, products, subscriptions, and more.  Global Citizens have taken over 33.8 million actions since 2009. Today, these actions, in combination with high-level advocacy work, have led to over $43.6 billion being distributed to our partners around the world, impacting 1.29 billion lives in the fight to end extreme poverty.

How did Global Citizen begin in Australia?

Founded in Australia in 2008 by Hugh Evans, Simon Moss, Mick Sheldrick, and Wei Soo, Global Citizen began with one mission: end extreme poverty in all its forms around the world. What began as the very first "End Polio Concert" in Perth Australia in 2008, is today a global movement of action takers from around the world campaigning everyday to fight climate change, stand up for education and gender equity, protect civil space and more.

Australia and the Asia-Pacific region are at risk of being swept away by overlapping and intensifying crises, and it is up to tomorrow's innovators to develop solutions that will benefit future generations. As we return to Australia, where it all began, our mission remains unchanged: to end extreme poverty and inspire people like you to take action globally.

In 2024, over 300 young innovators will join world leaders and some of Australia's most influential changemakers to help shape the future of the Asia-Pacific region and generate impact around the world for Global Citizen NOW: Melbourne, and you don’t want to miss it.

Global Citizen acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the unceded land on which Global Citizen NOW: Melbourne will be held, which includes Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong, Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. Global Citizen respects and welcomes all people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, abilities, and cultures.
