Today 26 EU leaders agreed a revision to the EU’s long-term budget, with one Member State blocking the agreement. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has released preliminary data showing that in 2022, a record $204 billion in foreign aid, known as ODA, was allocated to assist the world’s developing countries. We commend Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and Turkey for maintaining development aid levels at or above the benchmark of 0.7 percent of national income recommended by the United Nations. Today a total of $826 million has been pledged towards Education Cannot Wait’s (ECW) replenishment campaign, which over the next four years aims to reach 20 million of the most vulnerable children affected by crisis. We are pleased by the promising outcome. This is a strong start to kick off a four year campaign to raise $1.5 billion to make children’s dreams come true. We invite those governments, foundations and businesses that did not step up today to urgently invest in children's education and future because education cannot wait.
