Global Citizen Prize for
Honoring the Artists Using
Their Talents for Good
Sir Elton John is being recognized for his tireless efforts to eradicate HIV/AIDS through his work with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and most recently his leadership in raising vital funds for the global COVID-19 response.
The Global Citizen Artist of the Year award celebrates a creative individual or group who uses their platform to create change, not just through conversation but through meaningful impact.
As an artist whose career has spanned five decades, world-renowned singer, songwriter, and musician Sting has continuously used his profile as a 17-time Grammy-award winner to champion an issue vital to our planet’s future — saving the rainforests.
A schoolteacher before he became a rockstar, Sting went on to co-found the Rainforest Foundation in 1989. Since then, it has expanded to a network of organizations working in over 20 countries — and has so far helped protect 33 million acres of rainforest.
Annie Lennox is equal parts world-renowned musician and global humanitarian. Ever since she performed in 2003 at the inaugural concert for Nelson Mandela’s HIV/AIDS Foundation, she’s been on a mission to raise awareness and fundraise to support the fight against HIV/AIDS.
That experience, combined with spending time in Uganda with Comic Relief and Malawi with Oxfam, inspired her to found an organization called SING, dedicated to supporting women and children affected by HIV/AIDS. She also is a founder of The Circle, a not-for-profit that supports and empowers marginalized women and girls around the world.
