Friday, December 15, 2023

Today 26 EU leaders agreed a revision to the EU’s long-term budget, with one Member State blocking the agreement. If confirmed in the new year, the deal would slash the new funding for external action proposed by the European Commission and supported by the European Parliament, by prioritizing investment in migration management instead.

Statement from Global Citizen re: the 2023 Australian Federal Budget

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

While we want to applaud the increase of Australia’s Official Development Assistance budget to $4.77 billion, and its provisions toward urgent needs in the Pacific, investments in gender equity, humanitarian relief, and climate resilience and mitigation, we remain aware that this new budget sets Australia up to be one of the least generous developed nations in the world.

Statement from Global Citizen re: the OECD’s release of preliminary 2022 Official Development Assistance data

Thursday, April 13, 2023

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has released preliminary data showing that in 2022, a record $204 billion in foreign aid, known as ODA, was allocated to assist the world’s developing countries. We commend Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and Turkey for maintaining development aid levels at or above the benchmark of 0.7 percent of national income recommended by the United Nations. However, this is not a moment for celebration; several disturbing trends are putting the world’s long-term development goals at risk.

We are pleased by the promising outcome. This is a strong start to kick off a four year campaign to raise $1.5 billion to make children’s dreams come true. We invite those governments, foundations and businesses that did not step up today to urgently invest in children's education and future because education cannot wait.
