FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Global Citizen?

Global Citizen is the world's largest movement of action takers and impact makers dedicated to ending extreme poverty NOW. The voices of millions of Global Citizens around the world are driving lasting change towards sustainability, equality, and humanity by taking action every day.

We post, tweet, message, vote, sign, and call to inspire those who can make things happen to act — government leaders, businesses, philanthropists, artists, and citizens — together improving lives.

By downloading our app, Global Citizens learn about the systemic causes of extreme poverty, take action on those issues, and earn rewards with tickets to events, products, subscriptions, and more.

Over the last 13 years, Global Citizen has helped deploy more than $50 billion in commitments made through its platform and events, impacting 1.3 billion lives worldwide. These milestones prove that while Global Citizen’s mission to defeat poverty and defend the planet is ambitious, progress can be tangibly achieved when people campaign collectively, act strategically, and demand bold action from our leaders.

What is Global Citizen Live: Rio de Janeiro?

Global Citizen Live: Rio is a major live music and action event that will bring the message of Global Citizen NOW to a wider public audience. Through music, storytelling, and participation, the event will connect culture to impact and invite people across Brazil and around the world to take action for the Amazon, for climate justice, and for communities on the frontlines of environmental change.

On Saturday, 6 June, Global Citizen Live: Rio de Janeiro will celebrate the conclusion of Rio de Janeiro Nature & Climate Week, with a free, ticketed music event on Ipanema Beach headlined by Ms. Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘The Score’, featuring YG Marley and Zion Marley. Global Citizen Live: Rio de Janeiro de Janeiro will be co-headlined by Latin Grammy Award-winning artist Ludmilla

The show will be hosted by Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso, and will feature further commitments toward Global Citizen’s campaign goals throughout the evening.

What is Global Citizen Live: Rio de Janeiro advocating for?

Global Citizen Live: Rio de Janeiro is working to:

  • Mobilize funding for sustainable agriculture across the Amazon and Latin America
  • Support up to 10,000 jobs
  • Drive contributions to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a landmark initiative raising USD $100 Million to expand access to quality education and football for children worldwide.

Our events at Nature Week also mark the start of Phase Two of Global Citizen’s Protect the Amazon campaign

Phase One helped mobilize global attention, public action, and more than USD 1 billion toward Amazon protection.

Phase Two is focused on delivery. It is about moving from commitments to implementation, from awareness to investment, and from protecting nature as an environmental priority to positioning the Amazon as a foundation for a more inclusive green economy.
