FEATURED CREATIVE

Priyaswara Bharti

INDIA

This month’s Emerging Creative is 23-year-old filmmaker, campaigner, and youth advocate, Priyaswara Bharti.

The young creative is an Indian native who uses visual storytelling to spotlight gender, education, and climate issues. Through her youth forum, Bihar Youth for Child Rights and her foundation Vithi Foundation, she’s impacted over 20,000 young people with advocacy and skills-building.

Her films draw from lived experiences, amplifying young voices and challenging harmful norms, even as she navigates India’s repressed civic space with persistence and purpose. “I became a creative activist so that children and young people have the freedom to explore themselves, discover their talents, and use them for change.”

Priyaswara’s latest project, which we’re amplifying here through the Emerging Creatives Program, is The Unknown City: My Own City Flooded, a film that documents the 2019 floods in Patna. It is a necessary piece of storytelling, whose tale echoes across India’s cities every monsoon.
