The goal to eliminate hunger by 2030 feels like an unreachable pipe dream. The latest State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report confirms that conflicts, worsening climate impacts, the pandemic and economic crises continue to take a toll.
1 in 11 people worldwide faced hunger in 2023, a number which has remained stubbornly high for the last three consecutive years. This means millions of families still can’t afford healthy diets, many are queuing in food banks, the future of our children is being stolen by undernourishment while the need for food aid continues to skyrocket.
And let’s not forget about our food producers continue to mourn their drastic drop in their harvests.
The latest numbers are alarming and as part of our campaign, we want to show decision makers that Global Citizens and activists are demanding action on the global food crisis.
On an empty plate, write down 733 million people, take a selfie with it and post the photo with a message on your social media.
We are working alongside a coalition of civil society organisations on the campaign and will make sure decision makers see the faces calling for change.
