The climate crisis is intensifying, and its worst impacts are hitting countries least responsible for it — the Global South. Despite promises, the world’s richest nations, including Germany, have fallen short on delivering the $100 billion annually pledged to support vulnerable countries. This broken promise undermines global trust and stalls progress on limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
A new report by leading organizations, including Global Citizen, Klima-Allianz Deutschland, WWF Deutschland and Germanwatch, shows that Germany can do much more. The study identifies concrete ways to raise up to €96 billion annually for international climate action without compromising national budgets. Solutions like taxing fossil fuel companies, reforming harmful subsidies, and redirecting EU revenue streams are all achievable with political will.
Germany has a chance to demonstrate true leadership at COP29 and beyond by championing climate finance solutions. Taking bold action now will not only honor commitments to climate justice but also secure global stability and prosperity. Join us in urging Chancellor Scholz to make Germany a leader in funding the fight against climate change.
