Around the world, women and girls bear an unequal and unfair burden of unpaid care, domestic work and childcare - performing on average 75% of all unpaid work.
Millions of girls are forced to give up essential time for education, social development and recreation in order to care for their younger siblings, do household labour, and fill the gap in support faced by their families.
Unpaid labour responsibilities, accompanied by a lack of suitable childcare options, restricts women and girl’s educational and employment opportunities. This has an impact on their well-being and contributes to the cycle of poverty for themselves and generations to come.
For an equal future, we must give girls their time back.
We are asking the world leaders to commit new resources NOW, with $120 million in new funding, to support the World Bank's investments in childcare, which will fund child care projects around the world.
Help us urge the governments of the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, and Germany to join the US, Canada and Australia by contributing to the World Bank Child Care Incentive Fund and to tackle the Global Childcare Crisis for women and girls, ensuring a better future for all of us.
Add your name and call on leaders to give girls their time back now by creating suitable childcare for all!
