Héloïse Adelaïde Letissier, better known as Christine and the Queens, or Chris, performed her incredibly danceable hit ‘La Vita Nuova’ as part of ‘Global Goal: Unite for Our Future — The Concert’ and it’s so worth a watch.
Dressed in a gloriously ‘70s black jumpsuit and dancing around in the eerily empty Grand Palais — the stunning glass-domed hall in central Paris — Letissier’s emotive performance reminds us we can still have fun in lockdown.
But she also delivered an important message of the unity and togetherness that is everything the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future campaign stands for.
The French pop star and music producer — who also joined Global Citizen for the Together At Home campaign in April — introduced her set with a comment on the global challenges that 2020 has brought so far.
“This is a very strange year that we’re experiencing together,” she said. “It questions us about what we can do, where we stand in this hurt.”
Letissier continued: “And now more than ever is not the time to remain silent. Silence kills, and as an artist what I can do is speak up and hope that the ecstasy of a song is a hint for something more.”
Her performance in Saturday’s show followed Global Goal: Unite for Our Future — The Summit, a pledging summit held earlier in the day. World leaders, philanthropists, and corporates together committed to accelerate the development and equitable distribution of COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines.
The "Global Goal: Unite for Our Future" campaign mobilized more than $1.5 billion in cash grants and $5.4 billion in loans and guarantees, for a total of $6.9 billion pledged to provide equitable access to COVID-19, tests, treatments, and vaccines, as well as support for the world's poorest and most marganalized communities.
