The streets of New Delhi were awash in rainbow colors on Sunday as hundreds of gay rights activists marched in the 10th annual Queer Pride parade.
The country's gay pride march is particularly noteworthy because in India, gay sex is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The law was once ruled unconcstitutional by the New Delhi's High Court, but the country's Supreme Court overturned that ruling, leaving the decision up to the country's parliament, according to the AP.
"I don't understand why they criminalized love," one protester, Tish Anand, told the AP. "Duh. They are jerks."
The march on Sunday showed the growing support for gay rights in India and the willingness of Indians to stand up for the issue.
