What is needed to build a successful festival that is dedicated to ending extreme poverty in the world by 2030?

A great stage (check), impressive national and international stars (check) and thousands of Global Citizens who are committed to the fact that something has changed in the world (thousands of checks).

And now we have the politicians on our side: alongside the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Global Citizens are also looking forward to Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Argentine President Mauricio Macri join the festival on stage in Hamburg next month.

Take Action: Ask Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron to come to the Global Citizen Festival

Canada's Prime MinisterJustin Trudeau

Justin Trudeau is no stranger on the Global Citizen stage. Last year, he took part in the Global Citizen Festival in Montréal, Canada, and has worked with many stars and global citizens to promote more action on AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria around the world .

"I am delighted to support Canada's commitment to a more just, more sustainable and equal world, together with thousands of Global Citizens in Hamburg,” Trudeau said.

“The problems we face worldwide - climate change, poverty and diseases - are particularly affecting women and girls. Your voice and experience must be the focus of our efforts when we want to find real and long-term solutions. We must work steadily to make progress towards gender equality more and more rapid. That is the message I am bringing to Hamburg," he said.

Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg

Two years ago, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg's Twitter account was lit up by Global Citizens. The American comedian Stephen Colbert called on thousands of Global Citizens to write the Prime Minister on Twitter and ask her to take a pioneering role in helping to improve the chances of education for girls. And she promptly replied and promised to double Norway's contribution to the Global Partnership for Education on the Global Citizen Stage at New York's Central Park .

Solberg said that she is looking forward to attending this year’s festival in Hamburg and wants to send a signal to the other heads of state and the government together with thousands of Global Citizens:

"As Prime Minister of Norway and co-chair of the SDG Advocacy Group of the UN Secretary-General, I consider Global Citizen to be a very important movement to end poverty, provide education for girls and equality, strengthen global health, the environment and the climate. I am particularly pleased to participate in the Global Citizen Festival in Hamburg to convince G20 leaders and other decision-makers to support the Sustainable Development Campaign,” she said.

Argentina's President Mauricio Macri has never been on the Global Citizen stage. He is therefore looking forward to his premiere all the more, and hopes that this evening an important signal will come out, as Argentina will take over the G20 presidency next year. Especially in times like these, the world must show that we can hold together and move something together, he said.

"As the next G20 chairman, Argentina will be in the starting blocks to contribute to tackling the most pressing challenges in the world. I am looking forward to participating in this important event in Hamburg with Global Citizen. The festival will send a clear signal to the most powerful leaders of the world that we must now work together more than ever to create a just and sustainable development by investing in education, strengthening women and ending poverty in all its forms. The billions of citizens we represent together expect nothing less than that,” he said.

Global Citizen is pleased to welcome Erna Solberg, Justin Trudeau and Mauricio Macri as guest on July 6th.
