The Grammy Award nominations are out, and they are choc full of Global Citizens, both past and present.
Rihanna, who headlined the 2016 Global Citizen Festival in New York, received a smashing eight nominations — second only to 2015 Global Citizen Festival headliner, Beyoncé, who snagged nine.
Rihanna’s breakthrough album, “Anti” was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Recording Package, and her song “Work,” which she performed on our stage in Central Park, received two nominations as well — for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Coldplay, led by Global Citizen musical curator Chris Martin, scored a nomination for its Best Music Video for "Up & Up."
Other 2016 festival headliners to receive a nomination included Demi Lovato (Best Pop Vocal Album: “Confident”) and Metallica (Best Rock Song: “Hardwired”), D.R.A.M. (Best Rap/Sung Performance) and De La Soul (Best Rap Album).
Kendrick Lamar, winner of five Grammy awards for his work in 2015, only received one nod this year, for his collaboration with Beyonce on the song “Freedom.”
Several other artists that work with the Global Citizen rewards program who are friends with Global Citizen thanks to our Rewards program were also nominated for awards this year, including: Justin Bieber, Sia, Drake, Megadeth, Keith Urban, and Weezer.
Amy Schumer, Lukas Graham, Twenty One Pilots, Thomas Rhett, and Ariana Grande, who you can score free tickets to via Global Citizen, also were nominated.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Grammy’s, they are an annual celebration of the best in music, from country music to jazz and everything in between. Originally the “Gramaphone Awards,” the first ceremony took place in 1959. Grammy viewership peaked in 2012, when almost 40 million people tuned in to watch the show, but interest has waned in the years since then.

The award ceremony will take place on February 12, 2017.
