We’re “Desesperados” out here for a fossil-free future and Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro can relate. The star will be taking the Global Citizen Festival stage in New York City on Sept. 28, 2024 to perform his hit songs and call on the audience to take action against climate change.

An award-winning singer and rapper, Rauw Alejandro first joined Global Citizen earlier this year at Global Citizen Prize, an awards ceremony that honors advocates from around the world for their innovative work in ending extreme poverty and tackling climate change. At the event, Rauw Alejandro presented Ricardo Alba Torres with the Cisco Youth Leadership Award for his work in addressing global water access issues.

Now, Rauw Alejandro continues his support of the Global Citizen movement by performing at his first Global Citizen Festival alongside Post Malone, Doja Cat, LISA, Jelly Roll, Benson Boone, and RAYE.

Held annually in Central Park, the Global Citizen Festival aims to drive action on some of the world’s most pressing policy demands. This year, the festival’s primary policy goals are boiled down into three pillars of action: Defeat Poverty, Defend the Planet, and Demand Equity. Renowned artists, politicians, activists, and organizations will come together on Sept. 28, 2024 to rally Global Citizens and drive action on these critical issues.

For Rauw Alejandro, defending our planet against rising temperatures is a key concern. His home island of Puerto Rico has faced some of the worst impacts of climate change in recent years. Global warming is causing stronger and more frequent hurricanes, which have decimated critical infrastructure, displaced Puerto Ricans, and made it harder for the island to recover. Small developing island nations like Puerto Rico are also more vulnerable to rising sea levels and increased flooding, both of which are exacerbated by rising temperatures driven by the burning of fossil fuels.
