Move Afrika is just around the corner, global citizens from both Rwanda and Nigeria are gearing up for the occasion which will take place at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, on Feb. 21, followed by an event in Lagos, Nigeria, at The Palms on Feb. 25, with headliner John Legend.

Now, because we’re Global Citizen and everything we do is about creating change and ending extreme poverty, we are inviting YOU, our local Nigerian action-takers for a special impact event on Feb. 8 at AP Link Bridge Filling Station, Lekki Phase, Lagos.

Maternal and neonatal health remain critical challenges in Nigeria, as inadequate health financing and limited access to sexual and reproductive health services contribute to preventable morbidity and mortality. While community health workers play a pivotal role in delivering primary healthcare services under these circumstances, their impact is often hindered by underfunding and lack of governmental support.

We’re lacing up our shoes and stepping forward to confront these challenges. Join Global Citizen as we host Stride For Her Rights — an advocacy event designed to amplify the role of community health workers, advocate for increased health financing, and promote equitable access to maternal and neonatal healthcare services.

The good news? Not only will your participation make a difference to the call for change, but you could also earn tickets to Move Afrika in Lagos.

What Is Stride For Her Rights?

Stride For Her Rights is an Global Citizen advocacy event taking place on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Lagos, Nigeria.

What Time Will the Event Start?

The event will start at 7:30 am.

Why Is This Event Important?

This is not just a walkathon, it’s a movement. By participating, local citizens can bring awareness to the maternal health crisis in Nigeria and advocate for change. Engaging in this event provides a platform for individuals to make their voices heard, urging the government and private sector to prioritize maternal and child health services.

What to Expect at the Stride for HER Rights?

The Stride For Her Rights kicks off at 7:30 am with a health walk across the stunning Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, focusing on raising awareness about maternal and neonatal health.
Along the route, you will have the chance to participate in interactive educational activities about sexual and reproductive health and neonatal care, where you’ll also learn about the crucial role of community health workers.
At the finish line, check out our live storytelling wall, featuring powerful policy testimonies and personal stories from individuals who have benefited from community health work interventions. These will be presented to representatives from Nigeria’s Ministry of Health.

Who Will Be Speaking at the event?

Get ready to be inspired by our distinguished guest speakers: Dr. Kemi DaSilva-Ibru, Founder of WARIF, who will offer valuable insights on maternal health in Nigeria; Mrs. Olukemi Ogunyemi, Special Advisor at the Ministry of Health; and Ifeoma (Iphie) Chuks-Adizue, Managing Director of Move Afrika, who will also share their expertise.

Why Should You Get Involved?

You’ll have an incredible opportunity to influence positive change. Participants will be able to sign a live petition advocating for increased budget allocations for maternal and child health services, as well as calling for the support of community health workers in Nigeria.
And, of course, all participants who complete the walkathon will be entered into a draw for the chance to win tickets to Move Afrika on Feb. 25.
