In a 2010 TED Talk, game designer Jane McGonigal said, “If we want to solve problems like hunger, poverty, climate change, global conflict, obesity, I believe that we need to aspire to play games online for at least 21 billion hours a week.”

While this may sound outlandish, the charity Save the Children has embraced this thinking and launched an interactive new game called Sustainaville.

The game gives players a chance to build sustainable communities, much like the popular Sim brand of games, but with a global conscious. Take a look at Grantley Day, a game developer and Mat Tinkler, from Save the Children explain how it works.
