August 26 is Women’s Equality Day!
This year, the U.S. celebrates its 45th national Women’s Equality Day after “Battling Bella,” aka Bella Abzug — a Congresswoman from New York pushed forward gender equality, peace — called for a day to acknowledge the fight for women’s rights.
Fun fact: Abzug also introduced the first bill for gay rights to Congress in 1975. Clearly she’s a badass champion for all equal rights.
Abzug is one of many “loud” and outspoken women who’ve fought for women’s equality. Today, we can clearly hear messages of inspiration and calls for things like more room for women in governance, top-level business position, and equal pay from women around the world.
Here’s a shout out to some of the top #WomensEqualityDay voices speaking out today.
