WHEN: Saturday, September 28, 2024, 4:00pm EST

HOW TO WATCH:

The 2024 Global Citizen Festival will be broadcast and streamed to the world on Amazon Music, Amazon Music channel on Twitch, Apple Music and the Apple TV app, Brut, Facebook, iHeartRadio, TikTok, Veeps, YouTube, the Global Citizen app and www.globalcitizen.org. It will also stream on ABC News Live on Disney+, Hulu, Samsung TV+, Amazon Fire TV devices, Roku, Tubi, and YouTube.

WHY:
Right now, too many developing countries are saddled by high-interest loans, forcing their governments to spend more on debt repayments than on the needs of their people, and pushing more people into extreme poverty. To alleviate that cycle, this year’s Global Citizen Festival campaign is supporting the replenishment of the World Bank’s fund that provides zero and low interest loans for 75 of the world’s lowest-income countries, known as IDA. We are calling on the world’s wealthiest countries to increase their contributions to IDA by at least 25 percent, which will support economic development for more than 1.5 billion people, including providing access to electricity for 250 million people across Africa by 2030.

HOW TO GET TICKETS:
Hosted by Global Citizen, the world’s leading international advocacy organization on a mission to end extreme poverty, tickets to the Global Citizen Festival are free and can be earned by taking action on the Global Citizen app or at globalcitizenfestival.com to defeat poverty, defend the planet and demand equity.

This Saturday, September 21, Global Citizen will mark the start of Climate Week with a beach clean-up, in partnership with the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and supported by Goodera. Global citizens can earn free tickets to the festival by removing trash and marine debris from the shores of Jamaica Bay and documenting this year's 'Dirty Dozen' most common items found. The clean-up will be organized with assistance from the American Littoral Society's NY State Beach Cleanup Program, Black Surfing Association, and Surfrider NYC. Sustainability
This will be the most sustainable Global Citizen Festival yet:

  • Battery power: The festival’s main stage will be completely powered by the same SmartGrid battery system used to power Coldplay's ‘Music of the Spheres’ world tour, with the support of Coldplay, in partnership with Showpower Global B.V. and CES Power, with contributions from Equitable Earth.
  • All Vegetarian and Vegan Menu: Global Citizen Festival is 100% vegetarian, with an increased range of vegan options also available.
  • Water bottles: Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable plastic water bottle, and visit water refill stations around the festival site.
  • Plastic-Free Concessions: The event will provide compostable packaging and utensils for all concessions.
  • Crowd Engagement & Education: Volunteers will be walking around the crowd, encouraging attendees to take a sustainability quiz that will help them be well-informed on the climate crisis and responsible sustainability practices.
  • Minimizing Food Waste: All eligible excess food will be donated to local organizations to minimize food waste and ensure all eligible food is able to reach people in need.
  • Can Donation: All aluminum cans discarded at the festival will be donated, with excess going to Sure We Can a non-profit recycling center, community space and sustainability hub in Brooklyn.
  • Indigenous Trees for NYC: For the fourth year in a row, the festival’s set will include a variety of indigenous tree saplings. After the show, all of these trees will be donated to the New York City Parks Department and Central Park Conservancy to be planted in nearby parks in the City.
  • Repurposed Stage: The festival’s set will be made from reused and repurposed materials from previous Global Citizen events, resulting in the diversion of hundreds of pounds of waste.
