This award honours and celebrates her contribution to achieving a just and sustainable future for all, in particular through her relentless work for equitable access to tests, treatments, and the vaccine against COVID-19
The Global Citizen Prize for World Leader award honors a political figure who has advocated for and implemented policy changes that have actionably improved the lives of those suffering the effects of poverty.
Amina J. Mohammed is a self-made woman who has worked for three Nigerian presidents and presided over a 5% national reduction in HIV infections and a 32% reduction in maternal mortality. As Nigeria’s Minister of Environment from 2015 to 2016, she steered the country’s climate action efforts, working to protect the environment and conserve resources for sustainable development. Prior to this, she took up an absolutely integral role in the creation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Solberg, whose political career spans almost three decades, advocates for vulnerable groups — especially women and children — and has made it her business to see to it that women and young girls are afforded equal opportunities and rights.
Most notably, she helped establish the Global Financing Facility (GFF) in support of women, children, and adolescents to receive quality health care and nutrition.
